Engine: Service and Repair
Fig. 1 Engine Mount:
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Relieve fuel pressure.
3. Disconnect fuel supply and return lines from the fuel rail by squeezing tabs and pulling them off.
4. Disconnect vacuum line from pressure regulator, then the injector electrical connectors.
5. Remove fuel rail hold-down bolts, then the fuel rail exerting equal force on both sides of the rail.
6. Drain engine coolant, then disconnect throttle cables from throttle body and mounting bracket.
7. Disconnect radiator and heater hoses, then remove the engine cooling fan.
8. Disconnect transaxle cooling lines from radiator, then remove torque strut and bracket assembly.
9. Remove radiator, then disconnect relay center wiring.
10. Disconnect fuel vapor canister hoses, then the battery cables from engine ground and starter motor.
11. Disconnect shift cables from transaxle, then the ECM main wiring harness.
12. Remove serpentine belt tensioner, then the belt.
13. Remove A/C compressor from mounting bracket, then secure compressor to lower tie bar.
14. Disconnect power steering line from attachment at lower righthand rail.
15. Disconnect engine wiring at lefthand rail.
16. Raise and support vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assemblies.
17. Remove stabilizer shaft, then disconnect tie rod ends from steering knuckle.
18. Remove lower control arm ball joints.
19. Remove drive axles from transaxle, then support drive axles with suitable wire and position out of the way.
20. Remove steering column intermediate shaft pinch bolt.
21. Remove starter, then flywheel cover and torque converter bolts.
22. Disconnect exhaust pipe from at rear manifold.
23. Support engine, transaxle and frame assembly, then remove frame bolts.
24. Lower engine, transaxle and frame assembly, then remove transaxle to engine mount bracket.
25. Remove exhaust crossover pipe, then left and right side exhaust manifolds.
26. Remove engine to frame front mount, then left and right engine mounts to frame, Fig. 1.
27. Remove transaxle to engine attaching bolts, then separate engine from transaxle.
28. Reverse procedure to install.
