Air Conditioning Evaporator Thermal Expansion Valve Tube Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging).
2. Remove engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair).

Note: Cap or tape off the open A/C components immediately to prevent system contamination.

4. Disconnect the compressor hose from the A/C evaporator thermal expansion valve tube and reposition. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement (Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement).




5. Remove A/C evaporator thermal expansion valve tube nut (1).
6. Remove A/C evaporator thermal expansion valve tube (2) from HVAC module.




7. Remove A/C evaporator thermal expansion valve tube nut (1).
8. Remove A/C evaporator thermal expansion valve tube (2) from condenser.




9. Remove A/C evaporator thermal expansion valve tube clips (1).
10. Remove A/C evaporator thermal expansion valve tube (2) from body.
11. Remove A/C evaporator thermal expansion valve tube from vehicle and discard sealing washers.

Installation Procedure

1. Install new sealing washers to A/C evaporator thermal expansion valve tube. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Seal Replacement (Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Seal Replacement).




2. Install A/C evaporator thermal expansion valve tube clips (1) to body.




3. Install A/C evaporator thermal expansion valve tube (2) to condenser.
4. Install A/C evaporator thermal expansion valve tube nut (1) and tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).




5. Install A/C evaporator thermal expansion valve tube (2) to thermal expansion valve tube.
6. Install A/C evaporator thermal expansion valve tube nut (1) and tighten to 19 Nm (14 lb ft).
7. Connect the compressor hose to the A/C evaporator thermal expansion valve tube. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement (Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement).
8. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair).
9. Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair).
10. Evacuate and charge the refrigerant system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging).
