Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Right

Removal Procedure





1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the drive belt.
3. Remove the generator.
4. Remove the generator bracket.
5. Remove the right spark plug wires.
6. Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the EVAP purge valve.
7. Remove the EVAP purge valve.
8. Remove the ignition coil bracket with the coils.
9. Remove the Ignition coil bracket studs.
10. Remove the vacuum hose from the grommet in the right valve rocker arm cover.





11. Important: The valve rocker arm cover gasket and sealant must be carefully trimmed away from the lower intake manifold gasket. Failure to do so may change the lower intake manifold gasket, causing a severe oil leak.

Remove the right valve rocker arm cover bolts.

12. Important: When removing the valve rocker arm cover, ensure that the gasket stays in place attached to the cylinder head.

Remove the right valve rocker arm cover. If the valve rocker arm cover adheres to the cylinder head, bump the end of the valve rocker arm cover with the palm of your hand or a soft rubber mallet.
13. Clean the valve rocker arm cover.

Installation Procedure





1. Install a new right valve rocker arm cover gasket to the valve rocker arm cover.

2. Important: Apply sealant GM P/N 12378577, (Canadian P/N 89022195) or equivalent at the cylinder head to lower intake manifold joint.

Apply sealant at the cylinder head to lower intake manifold joint at the rear of the lower intake manifold (1).





3. Important: Apply sealant GM P/N 12378577, (Canadian P/N 89022195) or equivalent at the cylinder head to lower intake manifold joint.

Apply sealant at the cylinder head to lower intake manifold joint at the rear of the lower intake manifold (1).





4. Install the right valve rocker arm cover.

5. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Install the valve rocker arm cover bolts.
^ Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
6. Install the vacuum hose to the grommet in the right valve rocker arm cover.
7. Install the Ignition coil bracket studs.
8. Install the ignition coil bracket with coils.
9. Install the EVAP purge valve.





10. Connect the vacuum hoses to the EVAP purge valve.
11. Install the right spark plug wires.
12. Install the generator bracket.
13. Install the generator.
14. Install the drive belt.
15. Connect the negative battery cable.
