Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair

Holding Flywheel:

Tools Required:
- J 37096 Flywheel Holding Tool
- J 38197 Crankshaft Balancer Puller
- J 36660 Torque Angle Meter

Remove or Disconnect

1. Negative battery cable.
2. Serpentine drive belt.
- Raise vehicle and suitably support.
3. Right front tire and wheel.
4. Inner fender splash shield (right side).
5. Flywheel cover.
6. Balancer retaining bolt, with assistant to keep flywheel from turning using tool J 37096.
- Install J 38197.
7. Balancer.
8. J 38197

Notice: The balancer is serviced as an assembly. DO NOT attempt to separate pulley from balancer hub.

Install or Connect

- Coat front cover seal contact area (on balancer) and seal surface with engine oil.

1. Balancer.
2. Balancer retaining bolt, with assistant to keep flywheel from turning using tool J 37096. Tighten bolt to 140 Nm (105 ft. lbs.). Then rotate an additional 56° using J 36660.
3. Flywheel cover. Tighten bolts to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.).
4. Inner fender splash shield.
5. Right front tire and wheel.
- Lower vehicle.
6. Serpentine drive belt.
7. Negative battery cable. Tighten bolt to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).
