End Cover, Transmission Removed

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Engine Support Bridge (10-222 A)

• Pry Lever - Remove Outside Mirror (80-200)

• Triple Square Socket Driver (3357)

• Engine/Transmission Jack (V.A.G 1383 A)

• Oil collection container

Removing

• Automatic transmission clean working conditions, refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.

• General repair instructions, refer to => [ Repair Information ] Repair Information.

• Transmission removed.

- Transmission, securing to engine/ transmission holder. Refer to => [ Transmission, Securing in Engine/Transmission Holder ] Transmission, Securing in Engine/Transmission Holder.

- Remove the bolts - arrows - and remove the cover.





Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

• Replace sealing rings, seals and screws for end cover.

Vehicles equipped with a round connector:

- Slide the new double lip seal - A - with the double lip facing outward onto the connector on the transmission control module (J217).





Vehicles equipped with an oval connector:

- Slide the new double lip seal - A - with the double lip facing outward onto the connector on the transmission control module (J217).





All:

- Clean the sealing surfaces on the transmission housing and on the cover.

- The alignment sleeves in the transmission housing or in the cover must be mounted on the same location.

- Place new gasket - A - for end cover onto transmission housing.





• Make sure the alignment sleeves fit correctly.

- Put on end cover and make sure the seal does not slip.

- Tighten new bolts - arrows - at first hand-tight and diagonally, and then to tightening specification (table ).





- Check installation position of double lip oil seal - A -:

• Double sealing lips must fit flush (sealing lips must not be twisted).

- Check installation position of double lip oil seal - A -: Double sealing lips must fit flush (sealing lips must not be twisted).

- After installing the transmission, check the ATF level and fill if necessary.

Tightening specifications
