Balancing Shaft






Balancing Shaft

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Locating Pins (T40116)

Removing

The transmission is removed.

Engine oil drained.

CAUTION!
To continue performing the repair procedure, ensure lock carrier is installed and torque support is tightened.

- Vehicles with multitronic transmission. Refer to: Remove damper unit => [ Damper Unit ] Damper Unit and flywheel => [ Flywheel, Multitronic Transmission ] Flywheel, Multitronic Transmission.

- Vehicles with automatic transmission 09L: Remove drive plate. Refer to => [ Drive Plate, Automatic Transmission 09L ] Drive Plate, Automatic Transmission 09L.

- Remove the sealing flange, belt pulley side. Refer to => [ Sealing Flange with Crankshaft Seal, Belt Pulley Side ] Service and Repair.

- Remove lower timing chain cover. Refer to => [ Lower Timing Chain Cover ] Lower Timing Chain Cover.

- Remove power take-off drive chain. Refer to: Vehicles up to 04.2006 => [ Power Take-Off Drive Chain, through 04.06 ] , vehicle from 04.2006 => [ Power Take-Off Drive Chain, from 04.06 ] Power Take-Off Drive Chain, from 04.06.

- Secure the rear balance weight - 1 - to the engine using the Locating Pin (T40116).





- Remove bolt - 2 - and remove balance weight from the balance shaft.

- Remove bolt - 2 -, thereby counter-hold balance weight with drift and remove balance weight - 1 - from balance shaft at front of engine.





- Remove bolts - arrows - and remove bearing end bracket from balance shaft at rear of engine.





- Pull balance shaft rearward and out from cylinder block.

Installing

Secure crankshaft - 1 - in TDC position using Crankshaft Holder (T40069).





Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal, noting the following:

The balance weights can only be positioned one way on balance shaft.

- Install the power take-off drive chain. Refer to: Vehicles up to 04.2006 => [ Power Take-Off Drive Chain, through 04.06 ] , vehicle from 04.2006 => [ Power Take-Off Drive Chain, from 04.06 ] Power Take-Off Drive Chain, from 04.06.

- Install lower timing chain cover. Refer to => [ Lower Timing Chain Cover ] Lower Timing Chain Cover.

- Install the sealing flange, belt pulley side. Refer to => [ Sealing Flange with Crankshaft Seal, Belt Pulley Side ] Service and Repair.

- Vehicles with multitronic transmission: Install flywheel. Refer to => [ Flywheel, Multitronic Transmission ] Flywheel, Multitronic Transmission and damper unit => [ Damper Unit ] Damper Unit.

- Vehicles with automatic transmission 09L. Refer to: Install drive plate => [ Drive Plate, Automatic Transmission 09L ] Drive Plate, Automatic Transmission 09L.

- Fill engine oil and Check oil level.

Tightening Specifications
