Fluid Pan: Service and Repair
Oil Pan
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Oil collecting and extracting device (VAG 1782)
• Protective glasses
Removing
• General repair information. Refer to => [ General Repair Information ] General Repair Information.
• Rules of cleanliness for working on transmissions. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.
- Remove the rear noise insulation by loosening the fasteners - 1 and 2 - and, if equipped the - arrow -.
- Remove the front crossbrace bolts - arrows - and crossbrace from under the transmission oil pan.
• Disregard - item 1 -.
- Place the used oil collection and extraction device (VAG 1782) under the transmission.
CAUTION!
Wear protective glasses.
- Remove the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) drain plug - arrow A -.
- Drain the ATF.
• Observe disposal regulations.
• The engine must not be started and the vehicle must not be towed if there is no ATF in the transmission!
- Remove the 24 oil pan bolts in a diagonal sequence and remove oil pan.
Installing
Install in the reverse sequence; note the following points:
• Replace the gaskets.
• The drain plug with seal must be replaced.
- Clean all 6 magnets in the depressions in the oil pan. Ensure that the magnets are in full contact with the oil pan.
- Thoroughly clean the sealing surface, removing the residual gasket material completely.
- Tighten the oil pan bolts diagonally in several stages.
- Install the crossbrace.
- Fill with ATF. Refer to => [ ATF Draining or Filling after Repair ] 09LA Transmission.
Tightening Specifications
* Replace bolt.
* Tighten diagonally in stages.
