Battery
Observe notes on contact corrosion. Refer to => [ Contact Corrosion ] Vehicle Damage Warnings.
Removing
CAUTION!
Pollution risk.
• Battery and sulfuric acid disposal regulations must be followed when disposing of batteries.
- Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
- Remove the luggage compartment liner.
- Connect the battery charger for battery assistance mode. Refer to => [ Battery, Preparing for Support Mode ] Battery, Preparing For Support Mode.
- Loosen nut - 1 - a few turns and remove ground wire terminal clamp from battery terminal.
- Loosen the nut - 4 - a few turns and remove the positive wire terminal clamp from the battery terminal.
- Remove the screw - 2 - at battery bracket - 3 -.
- Remove battery from battery mount.
- Raise the battery out of the battery console.
Installing
• Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Battery Assembly Overview ] Battery Assembly Overview.
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
• Only maintenance-free batteries conforming to standards TL82506 (as of December 1997) and VW75073 (as of August 2001) may be installed.
• Batteries from the Audi Parts Program have a bottom strip-adapter for adapting to different grip channels. Whether and how bottom strip-adapter is used, refer to operating instructions for battery.
- Insert the battery in the battery mount so the base strip engages in the battery mount retaining strips.
• The battery carrier tab must engage at the rear - arrow - in the opening in the battery base strip - 1 -.
• It should no longer be possible to move the battery.
• Battery is properly inserted when center notch of battery base reinforcement aligns with threaded hole in battery carrier - arrows -.
- Position battery bracket - 3 -.
• Lug at battery bracket must engage in recess at battery base strip.
- Hand tighten battery bracket screw - 2 -.
With ignition switched off and electrical consumers switched off, connect battery in the following sequence:
- Connect positive cable terminal clamp - 4 - by hand to battery positive terminal + and tighten nut.
- Connect pole shoe - 1 - of ground cable by hand to battery negative terminal - and tighten nut.
- Check battery after installation for secure seating.
- Install the luggage compartment liner.
When the battery is connected, the following steps must be performed:
• Activate the one-touch up/one-touch down power window regulators. Refer to the owner's manual.
• Synchronize secondary and additional keys to ensure remote control operation. To do so, insert key into ignition lock, switch the ignition on and off again and remove key.
• Check DTC memories of all control modules and erase Undervoltage DTC if necessary.
• After connecting the power supply, the ABS warning lamp may only go out after the vehicle has been driven a few yards.
