Fluid Pan: Service and Repair
Oil Pan
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Drip tray (V.A.G 1306)
• Protective glasses
Removing
• General repair notes => [ General Repair Information ] General Repair Information.
• Rules of cleanliness for working on automatic transmissions => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.
- Loosen quick-release connectors - 2 - and remove rear noise insulation.
- Remove crossmember by removing bolts - 2 -.
• Disregard - 1 -.
- Place drip tray (V.A.G 1306) underneath transmission.
CAUTION!
Wear protective glasses.
- Remove ATF drain plug - arrow A -.
- Drain ATF.
• Observe disposal regulations.
• The engine must not be started and the vehicle must not be towed if there is no ATF in the transmission!
- Remove the 24 oil pan bolts in a diagonal sequence and remove oil pan.
Installing
Install in reverse sequence; note the following points:
• Replace gaskets.
• Drain plug with sealing ring must be replaced.
- Clean all 6 magnets in the depressions in oil pan. Ensure that the magnets are in full contact with the oil pan.
- Thoroughly clean the sealing surface, removing the residual gasket material completely.
- Tighten oil pan bolts diagonally in several stages.
- Install crossmember.
- Fill with ATF => [ ATF, Draining or Filling after Repair ] ATF, Draining or Filling After Repair.
Tightening Specifications
* Replace bolt.
* Tighten diagonally in stages.
