Cable Reel Replacement

Removal

1. Make sure the front wheels are aligned straight ahead.

2. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure Procedures, then wait at least 3 minutes.

3. Remove the driver's airbag Driver's Airbag Replacement.

4. Disconnect the cable reel connector C (20P) (A) from the cable reel, then remove the steering wheel bolt (B).






5. Confirm that the front wheels point straight ahead, then remove the steering wheel with a steering wheel puller Steering Wheel Removal.

Do not tap on the steering wheel or steering column shaft when removing the steering wheel.

6. Remove the upper and lower column covers Service and Repair.

7. Disconnect the cable reel connector B (4P) (A) on the dashboard wire harness and the cable reel connector A (20P) (B) on the dashboard wire harness from the cable reel (C).






8. Release the upper lock tab (A) under the cable reel connector with a 90 ° hook shaped tool (B). Slide the tool below the cable reel connector just above the lock tab. Release the lower lock tab (C), and slide the cable reel off the column.






Installation

1. Before installing the steering wheel, make sure the front wheels are aligned straight ahead.

2. If not already done, disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

3. Set the turn signal canceling sleeve (A) so that the projections (B) are aligned vertically.






4. Carefully install the cable reel (A) on the steering column shaft. Then connect the cable reel connector A (20P) (B) on the dashboard wire harness and cable reel connector B (4P) (C) on the dashboard wire harness to the cable reel.






5. Install the upper and lower column covers Service and Repair.

6. Before installing the steering wheel, make sure the front wheels are pointing ahead, then center the cable reel (A). Do this by first rotating the cable reel clockwise until it stops. Then rotate it counterclockwise (about three turns) until the arrow mark (B) on the cable reel label points straight up.






7. Position the two tabs (A) of the turn signal canceling sleeve (B) as shown, and install the steering wheel on to the steering column shaft, making sure the steering wheel hub (C) engages the pins (D) of the cable reel and tabs of the turn signal canceling sleeve. Do not tap on the steering wheel or steering column shaft when installing the steering wheel.






8. Install the steering wheel bolt (A), and tighten it to the specified torque, then connect the cable reel connector C (20P) (B).





9. Install the driver's airbag Driver's Airbag Replacement.

10. Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure Procedures.

11. Clear any DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

12. After installing the cable reel, confirm proper system operation:

- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
- Make sure the horn and turn signal switches work properly.
- Make sure the steering wheel switches work properly.

13. After installation, check the steering wheel spoke angle. If the steering spoke angles to the right and left are not equal (steering wheel is not centered), correct the engagement of the wheel/column shaft splines.
