VSA DTC Troubleshooting: 86

DTC 86: F-CAN Communication

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

2. Clear the DTC with the HDS. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then turn it to ON (II) again.

4. Check for other system DTC s with the HDS.

Is another system DTC s indicated?
YES - Do the applicable troubleshooting for the PCM.

NO - Go to step 5.


5. Measure the voltage between the steering angle sensor 5P connector terminal No. 5 and body ground.

Is there battery voltage?
YES - Go to step 6.

NO - Repair open in the wire between the No. 18 (15 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box and the steering angle sensor.






6. Measure the voltage between the steering angle sensor 5P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground.

Is there 0.2 V or less?
YES - Go to step 7.

NO - Repair open in the wire between the steering angle sensor and body ground (G501).






7. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

8. Disconnect the VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector and the steering angle sensor 5P connector.

9. Check for continuity between the VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector terminal No. 14 and No. 30, and the steering angle sensor 5P connector terminal No. 4 and No. 2 individually.

Is there continuity?
YES - Replace the steering angle sensor. Service and Repair

NO - Repair open in the wire between the steering angle sensor and PCM.
