DTC P1706: Open in A/T Gear Position Switch Circuit

NOTE: Record all freeze data before you troubleshoot.

1. Test the A/T gear position switch.
Is the switch OK?
YES-Go to step 2.
NO-Replace the A/T gear position switch.





2. Check for continuity between PCM connector terminals B20 and B22 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES-Go to step 3.
NO-Repair open in the wires between PCM connector terminals B20 and B22 and ground (G101). Repair poor ground (G101).
3. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
4. Shift to the D3 position.





5. Measure the voltage between PCM connector terminals D9 and B20 or B22.
Is there voltage?
YES-Repair open in the wire between PCM connector terminal D9 and the A/T gear position switch.
NO-Go to step 6.
6. Shift to the [R] position.





7. Measure the voltage between PCM connector terminals D6 and B20 or B22.
Is there voltage?
YES-Repair open in the wire between PCM connector terminal D6 and the A/T gear position switch.
NO-Go to step 8.
8. Shift to the [P] or [N] position.





9. Measure the voltage between PCM connector terminals B14 and B20 or B22.
Is there voltage?
YES-Repair open in the wire between PCM connector terminal B14 and the A/T gear position switch.
NO-Go to step 10.
10. Shift to the [D5] position.





11. Measure the voltage between PCM connector terminals D8 and B20 or B22.
Is there voltage?
YES-Repair open in the wire between PCM connector terminal D8 and the A/T gear position switch.
NO-Go to step 12.
12. Shift to the [2] position.





13. Measure the voltage between PCM connector terminals D14 and B20 or B22.
Is there voltage?
YES-Repair open in the wire between PCM connector terminal D14 and the A/T gear position switch.
NO-Go to step 14.
14. Shift to the E1 position.





15. Measure the voltage between PCM connector terminals.
Is there voltage?
YES-Repair open in the wire between PCM connector terminal D15 and the A/T gear position switch.
NO-Go to step 16.
16. Shift to the [N] position.





17. Measure the voltage between PCM connector terminals D4 and B20 or B22.
Is there voltage?
YES-Repair open in the wire between PCM connector terminal D4 and the A/T gear position switch.
NO-Check for loose terminal fit in the PCM connectors. If necessary, substitute a known-good PCM and rechecked
