Water Pump: Service and Repair
Coolant Pump
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
• Drip Tray (V.A.G 1306) or Drip Tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208)
Removing
- Remove the noise insulation.
- Drain the coolant. Refer to => [ Coolant, Draining ] Coolant, Draining.
- Remove the ribbed belt. Refer to => [ Ribbed Belt ] Service and Repair.
• For removal of the coolant pump, the pulley can remain installed.
- Remove the coolant pump bolts through the holes - arrows - in the pulley and remove the coolant pump.
If the coolant pump must be replaced:
- Remove the coolant pump pulley. To do so, counter hold the pulley using a drift (standard).
Installing
Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal, noting the following:
- Check the sprayed-on coolant pump seal. If the seal is damaged, the coolant pump must be replaced.
- Install the coolant pump.
- Tighten the coolant pump bolts to specification: 8 Nm
- Install the pulley to the coolant pump. Tightening specification: 20 Nm
- Install the ribbed belt. Refer to => [ Ribbed Belt ] Service and Repair.
- Fill the coolant system. Refer to => [ Coolant, Filling ] Coolant, Filling.
