Windshield Washer Pump: Service and Repair






Windshield Washer Pump

Removing

- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Tools and Equipment.

- Raise and suitably support the vehicle.

- Remove the right front wheel and tire, if necessary.

- Remove the right front wheelhouse liner..

- Drain any washer fluid from the reservoir and into a suitable, clean container. This can be done by disconnecting the washer hose from the front (outboard) washer pump port, allowing the fluid to drain into a container through a temporary hose connected to the front washer pump port.

- Disconnect the electrical connectors from the washer pump motor. Slide the red lock on the connector to the release position, then, depress the black tab and pull the connector off the pump.

- Remove the pump from the reservoir by pulling the pump upper retention tab away from the reservoir cavity and then lifting the pump up from grommet. Do not damage the reservoir/pump sealing surface or puncture the reservoir during removal.

- Remove and discard the pump grommet.

Installing

- Install a new grommet when installing a new pump.

- Assure the pump upper retention tab is pressed into the reservoir slot and that the pump is rotated flat against the reservoir and the pump connector is facing up in the fully seated position. Assure the pump is aligned and fully seated in the reservoir cavity.

- Connect the electrical connectors to the washer pump motor. Slide the red lock on the connector to the closed or locked position.

- Assure that washer hose is properly routed in order to prevent pinching and possible inoperative washers.

- Install the right front wheelhouse liner..

- Install the right front wheel and tire.

- Lower the vehicle.

- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Tools and Equipment.

- Verify the washer pump operation.
