Knocking/Rattling Noise Coming from Transmission Area

Technical Background

Some vehicles may have been assembled with loose crankshaft to transmission torque converter drive plate fasteners.

Production Solution

Torque specification validation.

Service

Procedure

1. Remove the transmission from the vehicle. See Repair Group 37 in ElsaWeb.

2. Measure the torque on the crankshaft to flex plate fasteners.

If the fasteners are not tightened to 95 N.m (70 ft.lbs.), than proceed to step 3.

If all crankshaft to flex plate fasteners are properly tightened, install the transmission. See Group 37 in ElsaWeb.

3. Remove the crankshaft to flex plate fasteners, spacer plate, and torque converter drive plate. See Group 13 in ElsaWeb.

4. Position the new flex plate Part No. 7B0105323A on to the crankshaft.

5. Install the new spacer Part No. 7B0105341 and eight new fasteners Part No. WHT994411.

Note:

Tighten the fasteners hand tight only at this time.


6. Tighten the crankshaft to flex plate retaining fasteners to 95 N.m (70 ft.lbs.) in a criss-cross pattern.

7. Install the transmission.
