Transmission Fluid And Filter
• For the maintenance schedules. or the vehicle owner's manual, for the recommended maintenance (fluid/filter change) intervals for this transaxle.
• Only fluids of the type labeled ATF+4 should be used. A filter change should be made at the time of the transmission oil change. The magnet on the inside of the oil pan should also be cleaned with a clean, dry cloth.
• If the transaxle is disassembled for any reason, the fluid and filter should be changed.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to => for the proper procedures.
- Place a drain pan with a large opening, under the fluid filter oil pan.
- Loosen the fluid filter oil pan bolts (1) and tap the pan (2) at one corner in order to loosen the pan allowing the fluid to drain, then remove the oil pan.
- Remove the fluid filter nuts (1) and remove the filter (2).
- Install a new filter and nuts. Tighten the nuts to 5 Nm (44 in lbs).
- Install the fluid filter oil pan, use a bead of RTV sealant.
- Clean the oil pan and magnet. Install the pan using new silicone adhesive sealant. Tighten the oil pan bolts to 6 Nm (53 in lbs).
- Pour four quarts of ATF+4 into the transaxle through the dipstick tube.
- Start the engine and allow the engine to idle for at least one minute. Then, with the parking brake and brake pedal applied, move the shift lever momentarily to each gear position, ending in the park or neutral position.
- Check the fluid level and add an appropriate amount in order to bring the fluid level to 3 mm (1/8 in) below the lowest mark on the dipstick.
- Check the fluid level after the normal operating temperature 82 °C (180 °F) has been reached. For the fluid level and condition check for, the proper fluid fill procedure. Refer to => [ Fluid Level And Condition Check ] Description and Operation.
- To prevent dirt from entering the transmission, make certain that the dipstick tube cap is fully seated into the dipstick tube.
