Starter






Starter

Removing






- Install engine support tool 8534-12 or equivalent.






- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Tools and Equipment.

- Remove the battery cable nut (3) and battery cable (2) from the starter solenoid stud (1).

- Disconnect the electrical connector (4) from the starter solenoid.






- Remove the transmission to starter bolt (4).

- Support the engine/transmission with a jack stand or equivalent.

- Remove the two front transmission to starter bolts (3).

- Remove the starter (6) from the transmission (5).

- Rotate the starter (6) in order to allow removal from vehicle.

- Remove the starter motor bushing (1).

- Remove the starter motor dust shield (2).

Installing






- Install the starter motor dust shield (2).

- Install the starter motor bushing (1).

- Rotate the starter (6) in order to allow positioning into transmission (5).

- Install the starter (6) to transmission (5).

- Install front transmission to starter bolts (3). Tighten the bolts to 47 Nm (35.5 ft lbs).

- Install the transmission to starter bolt (4). Tighten the bolt to 47 Nm (35.5 ft lbs).






- Install the battery cable (2) and nut (3) to the starter solenoid stud (1). Tighten the nut to 14.5 Nm (128 in lbs).

- Connect the electrical connector (4) to starter solenoid.






- Remove the engine support tool 8534-12 or equivalent.

- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Tools and Equipment.
