Removing






- Install the engine support tool 8534-12 or equivalent.






- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Tools and Equipment.

- Remove the battery cable nut (1) and the battery cable (2) from the starter solenoid stud (3).

- Disconnect the electrical connector (5) from the starter solenoid (4).






- Remove the transmission to starter bolt (1).

- Remove the two front transmission to starter bolts (3).

- Remove the starter (5) from transmission (2).

- Rotate the starter (5) in order to allow removal from vehicle.

- Remove the starter motor dust shield (4).






Installing






- Install the starter motor dust shield (4).

- Rotate the starter (5) in order to allow positioning into transmission (2).

- Install the starter (5) to transmission (2).

- Install the two front transmission to starter bolts (3). Tighten the bolts to 47 Nm (35.5 ft lbs).

- Install the transmission to starter bolt (1). Tighten the bolt to 47 Nm (35.5 ft lbs).

- Install the battery cable (2) and nut (1) to the starter solenoid stud (3). Tighten nut to 14.5 Nm (128 in lbs).

- Connect the electrical connector (5) to starter solenoid (4).






- Remove the engine support tool 8534-12 or equivalent.

- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Tools and Equipment.
