Alternator: Service and Repair






Generator

Removing






- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Tools and Equipment.

- Remove the drive belt.

- Unsnap the plastic protective cover (1) from B+ stud.

- Remove the B+ terminal nut (3) and B+ terminal (2) from the generator.

- Disconnect the field wire electrical connector (4) by pushing on the connector tab.






- Remove the generator bracket bolt (1).

- Remove the generator bracket nut (2) and bracket (3).






- Remove the generator bolts (2 and 3).

- Remove the generator (1).

Installing






- Position the generator (1) to engine and install bolts (2 and 3). Tighten the bolts to 54 Nm (40 ft lbs).






- Install the generator bracket (3) to the generator and stud.

- Install the generator bracket nut (2) and tighten the nut to 28 Nm (21 ft lbs).

- Install the generator bracket bolt (1) and tighten the bolt to 28 Nm (21 ft lbs).






- Connect the field wire connector (4) to the generator.

- Install the B+ terminal (2) and nut (3) to the generator stud. Tighten the nut to 13 Nm (115 in lbs).

- Snap the plastic protective cover (1) over the B+ terminal.

- Install the drive belt.

- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Tools and Equipment.
