A/C Refrigerant Liquid Line, Rear
A/C Refrigerant Liquid Line, Rear
Review safety precautions and warnings in this group before performing this procedure. Failure to follow the warnings and cautions may result in serious or fatal injury.
• The A/C liquid line is serviced in two sections. The front section connects between the A/C condenser and the receiver/drier. The rear section connects between the receiver/drier and the A/C expansion valve. On models equipped with the rear HVAC system, the rear section of the A/C liquid line also includes an extension tube that connects the liquid line to the underbody lines.
Removing
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
- Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Refer to => [ Refrigerant System, Recovery ] Refrigerant System, Recovery.
- On models equipped with the rear HVAC system, disconnect the A/C liquid line from the underbody liquid line. Refer to => [ Rear Underbody Refrigerant Lines ] Rear Underbody Refrigerant Lines.
- Remove the air cleaner housing and inlet duct from the engine compartment.
- Disconnect the wire harness connector (1) from the A/C pressure transducer (2) located on the fitting on the rear section of the A/C liquid line (3) at top of the A/C receiver/drier (4).
- Remove the A/C pressure transducer from the rear section of the A/C liquid line and remove and discard the O-ring seal.
- Remove the bolt (5) that secures the rear section of the A/C liquid line to the A/C receiver/drier.
- Disconnect the rear section of the A/C liquid line from the A/C receiver/drier and remove and discard the O-ring seal.
- Remove the nut (3) that secures the A/C suction line (1) and the A/C liquid line (5) to the A/C expansion valve (2).
- Disconnect the A/C suction and liquid lines from the A/C expansion valve and remove and discard the washer seals.
- Separate the rear section of the A/C liquid line from the tapping block (4) of the A/C suction line.
- Disengage the rear section of the A/C liquid line from the retaining brackets located near the center of the dash panel and at the rear of the receiver/drier and remove the liquid line from the engine compartment.
- Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings and the expansion valve and receiver/drier ports.
Installing
Be certain to adjust the refrigerant oil level when servicing the A/C refrigerant system. Refer to => [ A/C Compressor Refrigerant Oil Charge ] A/C Compressor Refrigerant Oil Charge. Failure to properly adjust the refrigerant oil level will prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.
• When replacing multiple A/C system components, refer to the refrigerant oil capacities chart to determine how much oil should be added to the refrigerant system. Refer to => [ A/C Compressor Refrigerant Oil Charge ] A/C Compressor Refrigerant Oil Charge.
• Replacement of the refrigerant line seals and gaskets is required anytime a refrigerant line is disconnected. Failure to replace the rubber O-ring seals, metal gaskets or washer seals may result in a refrigerant system leak.
- Remove the tape or plugs from the opened refrigerant line fittings and the expansion valve and receiver/drier ports.
- Lubricate new washer seals with clean refrigerant oil and install them onto the opened refrigerant line fittings. Use only the specified seals as they are made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
- Position the rear section of the A/C liquid line (5) into the engine compartment and engage the liquid line to the retaining brackets located near the center of the dash panel and at the rear of the receiver/drier.
- Install the rear section of the A/C liquid line into the suction line tapping block (4).
- Connect the rear section of the A/C liquid line and the A/C suction line (1) to the A/C expansion valve (2).
- Install the nut (3) that secures the A/C liquid and suction lines to the A/C expansion valve. Tighten the nut to 20 Nm (15 ft lbs).
- Lubricate a new O-ring with clean refrigerant oil and install it onto the opened liquid line fitting. Use only the specified O-ring seal as it is made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
- Connect the rear section of the A/C liquid line (3) to the A/C receiver/drier (4).
- Install the bolt (5) that secures the rear section of the A/C liquid line to the A/C receiver/drier. Tighten the bolt to 13.5 Nm (120 in lbs).
- Lubricate a new rubber O-ring seal with clean refrigerant oil and install it onto the fitting on top of the A/C receiver/drier. Use only the specified O-ring seal as it is made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
- Install the A/C pressure transducer (2) onto the fitting. Tighten the A/C pressure transducer to 5.6 Nm (50 in lbs).
- Connect the wire harness connector (1) to the A/C pressure transducer.
- Install the air cleaner housing and inlet duct.
- On models equipped with the rear HVAC system, connect the rear section of the A/C liquid line to the underbody liquid line. Refer to => [ Rear Underbody Refrigerant Lines ] Rear Underbody Refrigerant Lines.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Evacuate the refrigerant system. Refer to => [ Refrigerant System, Evacuate ] Refrigerant System, Evacuate.
- Adjust the refrigerant oil level. Refer to => [ A/C Compressor Refrigerant Oil Charge ] A/C Compressor Refrigerant Oil Charge.
- Charge the refrigerant system. Refer to => [ Refrigerant System, Charging ] Refrigerant System, Charging.
