Distribution and Driver Side


Disable the airbag system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to take the proper precautions may result in accidental airbag deployment and possible serious or fatal injury.

• Take the proper precautions to protect the front face of the instrument panel from cosmetic damage during this service procedure.

Removing

- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.






- Remove the screw (5) that secures the driver side duct (4) to the instrument panel support (6).

- Disconnect the driver side instrument panel duct (1) from the center distribution duct (2) and remove the instrument panel duct and duct as an assembly.

- If servicing the center distribution duct, remove the screw (3) that secures the distribution duct to the instrument panel support and remove the distribution duct.

Installing






• If the foam seal on the instrument panel duct is deformed or damaged, it must be replaced.

- If servicing the center distribution duct (2), install the distribution duct to the instrument panel support (6) and install the retaining screw (3). Tighten the screw to 2 Nm (17 in lbs).

- Position the driver side instrument panel duct (1) and driver side duct (4) as an assembly to the instrument panel support.

- Connect the instrument panel duct to the center distribution duct. Make sure the ducts are fully engaged to each other.

- Install the screw (5) that secures the duct to the instrument panel support. Tighten the screw to 2 Nm (17 in lbs).

- Connect the negative battery cable.
