Anti-Lock Brakes ESP Switch Circuit
Anti-Lock Brakes ESP Switch Circuit
For a complete wiring diagram, refer to.
• When Monitored: With the ignition on.
• Set Condition: When the anti-lock brake module indicates that the ESP switch is low for 30 seconds.
Test Step 1 - ESP Switch Circuit
• Any other DTCs are present must be repaired before continuing.
• Turn the ignition on.
• Turn the ESP switch on then off.
• Check for car icon on solid in cluster and pressing ESP switch does not change state.
• With the scan tool, read the switch state for the ESP switch with no pressure on the brake, read and record DTCs.
Does the scan tool display switch state indicating pressed?
Yes
• Go to Test Step 2
No
• The condition that caused the symptom is currently not present. Inspect the related wiring for a possible intermittent condition. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
• Perform the ABS Intermittent Condition Test. Refer to => [ ABS Intermittent Condition Test ] ABS Intermittent Condition Test.
Test Step 2 - Open Circuit
• Turn the ignition off.
• Disconnect the ESP switch.
• Using a test lamp connected to 12 volts, check the ground circuit.
Does the test lamp illuminate brightly?
Yes
• Go to Test Step 3
No
• Repair ground circuit for an open or high resistance.
• Perform the ABS Verification Test. Refer to => [ ABS Verification Test ] ABS Verification Test.
Test Step 3 - Check for Stuck ESP Switch
• Turn the ignition off.
• Measure the internal resistance of the ESP switch between the ESP control circuit and ground circuit.
Is the resistance less than 5.0 ohms?
Yes
• Replace the ESP switch.
• Perform the ABS Verification Test. Refer to => [ ABS Verification Test ] ABS Verification Test.
No
• Go to Test Step 4
Test Step 4 - ESP Control Circuit
• Turn the ignition off.
• Disconnect the ESP switch.
• Disconnect the anti-lock brake module harness connector.
• Measure the resistance of the ESP control circuit to ground.
Is the resistance less than 5.0 ohms?
Yes
• Repair the ESP control circuit for a short to ground.
• Perform ABS Verification Test. Refer to => [ ABS Verification Test ] ABS Verification Test.
No
• Replace the anti-lock brake module.
• Perform ABS Verification Test. Refer to => [ ABS Verification Test ] ABS Verification Test.
