Radiator: Service and Repair






Radiator

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Drip tray (VAG 1306)

Torque wrench (VAG 1331)

Removing

- Remove radiator fan support with fans. Refer to => [ Coolant Fan with Support ] Service and Repair.

CAUTION!
Hot steam may escape when opening expansion tank. Wear protective goggles and protective clothing to prevent damage to eyes and scalding. Cover cap with a cloth and open carefully.

- Drain cooling system. Refer to => [ Cooling System, Draining and Filling ] Cooling System, Draining and Filling.

- Pull retaining clips out of quick release couplings for upper and lower coolant hoses and pull coolant hoses off radiator.





- Remove front bumper. Refer to Removal and Installation.

- Remove coolant fan with support. Refer to => [ Coolant Fan Assembly Overview ] Description and Operation.

- Remove bolts - 3 - on rear side of radiator.





- Press off retaining clips - 2 - and - 4 -.

- Remove Air Conditioning (A/C) system condenser - 1 - from radiator.

- Remove left and right radiator locking mechanism by pressing down against clamps - arrow -.





- Remove bolts - 1 - on rear side of radiator.





- Remove upper radiator bolts and remove radiator upward.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal, noting the following:

- Fill cooling system. Refer to => [ Cooling System, Draining and Filling ] Cooling System, Draining and Filling.

- Electrical connections and routing, refer to

- Install front bumper. Refer to Removal and Installation.

- Check headlight adjustment and adjust if necessary.
