Stub Shaft Polygon Needle Bearing (AWD)

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
^ Pressure plate VW 401
^ Pressure plate VW 402
^ Punch VW 407
^ Punch VW 412
^ Alignment fixture 3253/5
^ Tensioning device T10047
^ Torque wrench V.A.G. 1331
^ Thrust shell for drive pinion bearing VW 470
^ Socket and key T10107 A
^ Thrust piece T40023
^ - 3 - Separating device 22 to 75 mm, e.g. Kukko 17/1

Removing
- Remove the noise insulation from under the engine/transmission.
- Remove the bevel gear transfer case.





- Remove the circlip - 1 - from the stub shaft.
- Carefully drive the stub shaft out - 2 - in the direction of the arrow using a plastic hammer.





- Arrange both parts of the tool so that the marks "B" face each other.
- The sections - arrows - must then be located under the bearing.
- Now screw both halves together until they stop.





- Pry out the needle bearing circlip - A -.
- To prevent the running surface of the bearing on the shaft from being damaged, rotate the shaft while pressing - arrow -.

Installing





- Arrange both parts of the tool so that the marks "B" face each other.





- To prevent the running surface of the bearing on the shaft from being damaged, rotate the shaft while pressing - arrow -.
- Secure the needle bearing with a new circlip.
- Carefully drive the stub shaft in until it seats using a plastic hammer.





- Install a new circlip - 1 - on the stub shaft.
- Install the right drive axle.
- Install the drive axle heat shield.





- Install the bevel gear transfer case.
- Check the gear oil level in the bevel box, as necessary.
- Install the noise insulation.
