Cylinder Head Assembly Overview
Note:
^ If an exchange cylinder head is installed, all contact surfaces between bearing elements, roller rocker levers and cam running surfaces of camshaft must be oiled before installing cylinder head cover.
^ The plastic protectors installed to protect the open valves must only be removed immediately before fitting the cylinder head.
^ When replacing the cylinder head or cylinder head gasket, coolant must be completely replaced.

^ Replace gaskets if damaged
4. Cylinder head cover

^ With spacer sleeve and seal
^ Replace seal if damaged
6. Cylinder head cover gasket
^ Replace if damaged or leaking
^ Note installation position
7. Lifting eye
^ With retaining plate for knock sensor connector bolted on.

9. Intake manifold support

13. Connecting piece
^ To heat exchanger
^ When changing from aluminum to plastic connecting pieces, pay attention to the bolt allocation
14. Gasket/sealing ring
^ Replace
^ Note installation position
15. Chain tensioner, 40 Nm
^ For camshaft timing chain
^ Only rotate engine with chain tensioner installed
16. Cover
^ Can be removed and installed with the engine installed
^ Coat sealing surfaces with sealant D 176 501 A1
17. Seal
^ For camshaft adjustment valve 1 N205 and camshaft adjustment valve 1 (exhaust) N318
^ Replace if damaged or leaking
18. 8 Nm

20. Coolant line
^ With retaining clips for vacuum line

^ For camshaft timing chain

^ Insert using locking fluid D 000 600 A2
24. Connecting piece
^ Bolt on in front of cylinder head installation

^ Replace

^ Metal gasket
^ Replace
^ After replacing replace entire amount of coolant
28. Cylinder head
^ Check for distortion
^ After replacing replace entire amount of coolant
29. Cylinder head bolt
^ Replace
^ Before assembling, coat the bolt with locking fluid D 197 300 A2. Apply locking fluid D 197 300 A2 on each cylinder head bolt in area 1 and install the bolts.
^ Observe installation instructions and sequence for loosening and tightening.

^ Feeler gauge
Max. permissible distortion: 0.05 mm
