Condition

Brake, Front Caliper Noise

Noise complaint from customers at slow speed turns with significant steering input. Foot might be on the brake lightly or not at all. The description could wrongly be attributed to the steering system or transmission.

Technical Background

Affected are only 4-Motion cars with 17" front brake calipers. The noise is a low frequency emission from the caliper that only happens in turns.

Production Solution

As of CW 13/07 from Chassis No: 3C_7E210703 and 3C_7P150496, the calipers installed in production have been updated with a vibration dampener to avoid this noise.

Service

Install Vibration Dampener 1K0 698 998 as described.

Tip:





Wheels do not have to be removed for this procedure.

1. Remove bolt, see illustration.

2. Install new bolt M12x60 with inside M6 thread and torque, see illustration.

3. Install dampener and washer with bolt M6x50 and torque, see illustration.

Tip:

Install the washer between dampener and M12 Bolt.
