Water Pump: Service and Repair
Coolant pump, removing and installing
(with engine installed)
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
^ Refractometer T10007
^ Drip tray V.A.G 1306
^ Torque wrench V.A.G 1331
^ Spring-type clip pliers VAS 5024
Removing
- Bring lock carrier into service position. [1][2]Procedures
CAUTION! Hot steam may escape when opening expansion tank. Wear protective goggles and protective clothing to prevent damage to eyes and scalding. Cover cap with a rag and open carefully.
- Drain coolant.
- Remove viscous fan clutch.
- Remove toothed belt.
- Remove toothed belt tensioning roller and idler roller.
- Remove coolant pump securing bolts - 1 - and remove coolant pump - 2 -.
Installing
Installation is performed in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
- Install new gasket - 3 - on coolant pump flange.
- Insert coolant pump - 2 - into cylinder block and tighten securing bolts - 1 -.
- Tightening torque: 10 Nm
- Install toothed belt tensioning roller and idler roller.
- Install and tension toothed belt.
- Fill system with coolant.
