Radiator: Service and Repair
Radiator, removing and installing
Note the Additional Information and Assembly Work on Vehicles with Air Conditioning.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
^ Refractometer T10007
^ Drip tray V.A.G1306
^ Torque wrench V.A.G1331
^ Assembly tool for spring-type clips VAS5024 or spring-type clip pliers VAS 5024A
Removing
- Drain coolant.
- Remove front part.
- Pull coolant hoses off radiator.
- Pull connectors off thermal switch and radiator coolant fan.
- Remove lock carrier. [1][2]Procedures
- Remove radiator securing bolts and take out radiator.
Vehicles with air conditioning
- Note additional information and removal work.
Installing
Installation is performed in the reverse order. When installing, note the following:
- Fill with coolant.
Additional information and assembly work on vehicles with air conditioning
CAUTION: The air conditioning refrigerant circuit must not be opened.
Note:
^ To prevent damage to condenser and to the refrigerant lines/hoses, ensure that the lines and hoses are not stretched, kinked or bent.
- Remove retaining clip(s) of refrigerant lines.
- Secure radiator to body before removing lock carrier. [1][2]Procedures
- To remove radiator, secure condenser to body.
- Remove condenser from radiator.
