Fluid Pan: Service and Repair


Oil pan, removing and installing

Removing
- Bring lock carrier in service position.
Refer to Body and Frame; Radiator Support, Service and Repair, front; Lock carrier service position
- Check whether a coded radio is installed. If this is the case obtain anti-theft coding.

Note: Observe the required measurement before disconnecting the battery.

- With ignition switched off disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap.
- Remove power steering reservoir from battery carrier, do not bend hoses when doing this.
- Tie reservoir up on lock carrier.
- Remove battery and battery carrier.





- Remove intake hose -1- and disconnect connector -2- from mass air flow sensor.
- Remove bolts -3- and -4-.
- Remove complete air cleaner.





- Remove central switch -1-. To do this turn lever (arrow) in direction of (arrow) and pull central switch off.
- Remove center noise insulation.





- Remove underbody guard -1- -arrows-.
- Place drip tray VAG 1306 beneath transmission





- Remove drain plug -arrow- and drain gear oil.
- Remove all cables and brackets from oil pan.





- Diagonally loosen 5 oil pan bolts bolts (arrows). - Bolts must be replaced.

Note: There will still be gear oil in the oil pan as it cannot drain entirely.

- Remove oil pan together with oil pan gasket.

Installing
Installation is carried out in reverse sequence. Note the following:





- Replace O-rings -B- at 20-pin Mechatronic connector.
- Moisten O-rings with gear oil.
- Clean gasket and sealing surfaces and clean oil residue.
- Make sure oil sump gasket is seated correctly.
- Make sure no lines are caught/trapped when installing oil pan.





- Screw in 5 new oil pan bolts in (arrows) diagonally in stages.
- Replace drain plug oil seal.





- Replace drain plug (arrow).
- Check gear oil level and top off, if necessary.

Note: The inspection plug oil seal must be replaced after checking the gear oil.

- Install noise insulation.
- Install central switch.
- Install battery and battery carrier.
- Observe the required measurement before and after reconnecting the battery.
- Enter radio code.
- Install lock carrier.

Torque settings:
Drain plug on transmission, M24 45 Nm
Control plug on transmission, M24 45 Nm
Oil pan to transmission housing 10 Nm
5x bolts M6 (diagonally in stages)
