Gear oil filter, removing and installing
Special tools and equipment
^ VAG 1306 Drip tray
^ VAG 1331 Torque wrench
Removing
- Check whether a coded radio is installed. If this is the case obtain anti-theft coding.
- With ignition switched off disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap.
- Remove power steering reservoir from battery carrier, do not bend hoses when doing this.
- Tie reservoir up on lock carrier.
- Remove battery and battery carrier.
Note: Observe the required measurement before disconnecting the battery.
- Remove intake hose -1- and disconnect connector -2- from mass air flow sensor
- Remove bolts -3- and -4-.
- Remove complete air cleaner.
- Unscrew nut (arrow) and place hydraulic line -1- to side.
- Unscrew filter housing bolts -2-.
Note: Before removing filter housing, tilt it slightly several times so that the oil in the filter housing can drain out.
- Remove gear filter carefully upward.
Note: Intake collar of filter is installed with an O-ring. Make sure O-ring does not become stuck in transmission (remove old O-ring if necessary).
Installing
Installation is carried out in reverse sequence. Note the following:
- Replace gear oil filter.
- Moisten O-ring in intake collar of new filter with gear oil before inserting it in transmission.
- Moisten O-ring at filter housing with gear oil before screwing it to transmission.
- Tighten filter housing -2- to 20 Nm.
- Install hydraulic line -1- with nut (arrow).
- Observe the required measurement before and after reconnecting the battery.
- Enter radio code.
- Check gear oil level and top off, if necessary.
