Water Pump: Service and Repair

Coolant pump, removing and installing


Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required




- Refractometer T10007
- Drip tray V.A.G1306
- Torque wrench V.A.G1331
- Assembly tool for spring-type clips VAS5024 or spring-type clip pliers VAS 5024A

Removing

Note: Always replace seals and gaskets.

- Drain coolant. Refer to Cooling System, Coolant Draining and Filling Service and Repair
- Remove toothed belt. Refer to Timing Belt Removal and Replacement Service and Repair





- Remove coolant pump securing bolts -1- and remove coolant pump -2- carefully.

Installing
Installation is performed in the reverse order. When installing, note the following:
- Clean or smooth sealing surface for O-ring.





- Moisten new O-ring -3- with coolant.
- Insert coolant pump -2- into cylinder block and tighten securing bolts -1-.
- Tightening torque: 15 Nm

Note: The sealing plug of the coolant pump faces down.

- Install toothed belt.
- Fill with coolant.
