Radiator: Service and Repair
Radiator, removing and installing
Special tools equipment
- T10007 Refractometer
- V.A. G 1306 Drip tray
- V.A.G. 1331 Torque wrench (5 to 50 Nm)
- VAS 5024 Assembly tool for spring-type clips
Removing
- Drain coolant .
- Disconnect connectors from thermal switch -1- and coolant fan -2-.
- Pull coolant hoses quick release couplings off radiator.
- Remove securing screws for headlight and disconnect connections
Models with an air conditioning system
- Observe additional information and removal work.
- Remove the four bolts for the air conditioning system condenser.
- Remove bolt (arrow) on left of radiator for condenser bracket.
Continue for all models
- Remove radiator securing bolts and take radiator with fan out downward.
Installing
Installation is performed in reverse order to removal, considering the following:
Additional information and assembly work on models with an air conditioning system
CAUTION: The air conditioning system refrigerant circuit must not be opened.
Note: To prevent damage to the condenser as well as to the refrigerant lines, ensure that lines and hoses are not stretched, kinked or bent.
- Remove retaining clamp(s) from refrigerant lines.
- Remover radiator securing bolts from side of radiator.
- Remove condenser from radiator.
- Secure condenser to body, so that refrigerant lines/hoses are not under stress.
- Swing radiator out downward.
