Water Pump: Service and Repair

Coolant pump, removing and installing
(with engine installed)

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required





Refractometer T10007
Drip tray VAG 1306
Torque wrench (5 - 50 Nm) VAG 1331
Spring-type clip pliers VAS 5024

Removing

Note: Always replace seals and gaskets.
Cover toothed belt with a cloth to protect it from coolant before removing coolant pump.

- Remove toothed belt. Refer to Timing Belt Removal and Replacement Service and Repair
- Drain coolant. Refer to Cooling System, Coolant Draining and Filling Service and Repair





- Remove bolts -1- of coolant pump -2- and carefully take out coolant pump.

Installing
Installation is performed in reverse order of removal. Note the following:





- Moisten new O-ring -3- with coolant.
- Insert coolant pump -2- into cylinder block and tighten securing bolts -1-. Tightening torque: 15 Nm

Note: The sealing plug of the coolant pump faces downward.

- Install toothed belt. Refer to Timing Belt Removal and Replacement Service and Repair
- Refill coolant. Refer to Cooling System, Coolant Draining and Filling Service and Repair
