Seals For Drive Flanges, Replacing (Rear Final Drive Installed)

Note: All illustrations show the left-hand side of the rear final drive. Removing and installing the drive flange and seal on the right-hand side is identical.





Special tools and equipment
^ 2062 Driver
^ VAG1331 Torque wrench
^ VAG1332 Torque wrench
^ VAG1306 Drip tray

Removing





- Remove cover plate on rear final drive (arrows).
- Place drip tray underneath.
- Disconnect drive axle.
- Remove drive flange securing bolt, to do this screw two bolts into flange and counter-hold drive flange using lever.
- Pry seal out using lever.

Installing
Installation is the reverse of removal, when installing note the following:





- Drive new seal in up to stop. When doing this do not cant seal.
- Lubricate space between sealing lip and dust lip with multipurpose grease.
- Check gear oil level and if necessary top off to lower edge of filler hole.
