Valve Body, Disassembling And Assembling

Special tools and equipment

^ VAG 1331 Torque wrench

Removing
- Place container under transmission.
- Remove drain plug and drain ATF.
- Remove bolts on oil pan and remove oil pan.





- Remove 2 bolts on ATF screen (arrows).
- Pull ATF screen off valve body.





- Pry clip (arrow) off harness connector on wiring harness.





- Disconnect harness connector from transmission Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) -G22- (arrow).





When removing valve body, only remove bolts marked with arrows.
The bolt identified by arrow -A- is shorter than the other bolts.

Note: The function of the valve body can be adversely affected if bolts other that those marked with an arrow are loosened.

- Detach valve body from transmission and guide harness connectors of wiring harness out.
Do not lay valve body down on its back as this could damage sensor for transmission RPM -G182- (located on back of valve body).

Installing
- Lubricate new O-rings for harness connector on wiring harness with ATF.





- Install harness connector in transmission housing with flat part (arrow -A-) facing toward oil pan.
- Align dowel pin on valve body (arrow-B) with hole in transmission housing (arrow-C-).





- Place valve body in position so that pin of detent plate -1- engages in slot on selector slide -2-.





- Hand-tighten bolts (arrows) securing valve body.
Bolt identified by arrow -A- is shorter than other bolts
- Tighten bolts to specified torque, working from inside outward.





- Press in securing clip (arrow) for harness connector on wiring harness until retaining tab engages.





- Lubricate seal on intake neck of ATF screen with ATF, and bolt on ATF screen (arrows).
- Install oil pan with new gasket.
- Tighten oil pan bolts in several stages and in diagonal sequence.
- Fill with ATF; check ATF level and top off.
