Hydraulic and Control Modules Removing and Installing



Hydraulic unit -N55- and control Module, removing and installing





Special tools required

Hydraulic unit -N55- and ABS control module cannot be supplied individually at present. Always replace hydraulic unit and control module together.
Location:
The ABS control module is bolted to the hydraulic unit and is located on the left in engine compartment.

Caution: Do not bend brake lines near the hydraulic unit!

Removing:
- Note radio code.
- Disconnect battery.





- Release control module connector (arrow -1-) and disconnect (arrow -2-).
- Install brake pedal loading tool from VAG 1238 B.
- Depress brake pedal at least 60 mm (2.36 inch) with brake pedal depressor.
- Connect bleeder bottle hose to left front brake caliper bleeder screw and open screw.
- Close left front bleeder screw.
- Place sufficient lint-free cloths under control and hydraulic modules.
- Remove brake lines from the hydraulic unit -N55-.
- Seal brake lines and threaded holes with plugs from repair set Part No. 1 H0 698 311 A.
- Remove hex nuts on hydraulic unit bracket.
- Remove hydraulic unit.

Installing:

Notes:
- Remove sealing plugs on new hydraulic unit -N55- only when the corresponding brake line is connected.
- If the plugs are removed too soon a leak can occur and the module must be bled again.

- Reassemble in reverse sequence.
- Bleeding brake system.
- Enter radio code.
