Electronic Power Control (EPC) Warning Lamp (Malfunction Indicator Lamp For Electronic Accelerator) In Instrument Cluster, Significance
Checking EPC lamp
- Through MY 1999. Refer to "EPC Warning Lamp Functional Check" under "Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators/Malfunction Indicator Lamp/Testing and Inspection/Procedures", Testing and Inspection
- From MY 2000. Refer to "EPC Warning Lamp Functional Check" under "Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators/Malfunction Indicator Lamp/Testing and Inspection/Procedures", Testing and Inspection
The EPC warning lamp is the Malfunction Indicator Lamp for the electronic accelerator (E-gas) system.
Location of EPC warning lamp
The engine control module checks all the important functions of the electronic accelerator system after switching on the ignition.
The engine control module switches the EPC warning lamp on for about 1 second during the test of this component. If a malfunction is recognized during the test, the lamp will light continuously.
If malfunctions are recognized in electronic accelerator system (E-Gas) when the engine is in operation, the EPC lamp is switched on. In vehicles through MY 1999, this is done directly via the ECM. In vehicles from MY 2000, the signal is sent by the ECM to the instrument cluster and the instrument cluster turns on the EPC lamp. These malfunctions are listed in the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) table. Simultaneously an entry is made in the engine control module DTC memory.
