Selector Mechanism On Transmission Side, Up To 05.99 Disassembling And Assembling

- VW 439 Guide pin
- VW 402 Press plate
- VW 408 A Press Tool
- VW 447 H Press Plate
- 3129 Fitting Tool






1 Selector shaft
2 Stop ring
3 Ball sleeve
- Removing Fig. 1
- Pressing in Fig. 2
4 Oil seal
- Pry out with screwdriver
- Installing =refer to Fig, 3
5 Selector mechanism cover
6 Sleeve
- Offset shoulder points to back-up light switch
- Lightly coat shoulder with MoS2 grease
7 Nut
- 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
- Self-locking
- Always replace
8 Housing
- For back-up light switch
9 Bolt
10 Cap
- For transmission breather
11 Sleeve
- Drive in onto stop if present as an individual part
12 Gear selector lever
- Install so that master spline aligns with selector shaft
- Can be replaced with selector mechanism installed
- Installation position
13 Relay lever
- Installation position.
14 Nut
- 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.)
15 Actuating arm
- With axis pin for mounting relay lever
- Installation position
16 Bolt
- Press into actuating arm
17 O-ring
- Pull onto actuating arm axis pin
18 Spacer
- Press into relay lever
19 Locking bolt
- 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.)
20 End cover

- Before pulling out ball sleeve destroy plastic cage and remove balls.
A Internal extractor, e.g. Kukko 21/3, 18.5 - 23.5 mm

With the transmission installed, the seal can be installed with sleeve VW 423.
