Glow Plugs, Checking

- Remove glow plug wire and bus bar.
- Connect VAG 1527B LED Tester to battery (+) and to each glow plug in sequence:
LED Tester lights up: Glow plug OK.
LED Tester does not light up: Replace glow plug
Tightening torque: 25 Nm (18 ft lb)


NOTES:
- The tightening torque must not be exceeded otherwise the gap between the glow tip (electrode) and the threaded section will be squeezed together, causing the glow plug(s) to fall prematurely
- If no malfunctions are found but the engine is still hard to start, visually examine the glow plugs while they are glowing (with the fuel injectors removed).
