Replacement
NOTE:^ Before replacing clutch cable, check operation
^ Observe general repair instructions.
^ Lubricate all bearings and friction surfaces with MoS2 grease.
WARNING: Always replace self-locking nuts and circlips during repairs.
CAUTION: Before working on pedal cluster:
^ Obtain security code for anti-theft radio.
^ Disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap.

1 Clutch cable
- Vehicles with gasoline spark-ignition engine only

- Bracket -7- to threaded studs on mounting plate
- Tighten to: 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
- Always replace
10 Attachment bolts, bracket to assembly support
- Bracket -7- to support
- Tighten to: 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
11 Pivot pin for clutch pedal and brake pedal
- Installation position, refer to Fig. 1 below.

- Beginning August, 1993, a balance weight will be attached to the clutch release lever in cases where excessive noise and vibration are transferred to the clutch pedal.
- The 200 gram balance weight installed on vehicles with 1.9 liter Diesel engine (up to August 1993) is discontinued.
- Tighten to: 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
NOTE: The new balance weight can be installed on current vehicles where necessary to address complaints about clutch pedal noise and vibration.
REMOVAL
- Remove over-center spring, refer to Replacement. Service and Repair
- Disconnect clutch cable from clutch pedal, refer to Replacement for procedure.
- Remove clutch pedal retaining clip from pivot pin by using screwdriver to press tab in direction of arrow -1- and pressing clip in direction of arrow -2-.
- On brake pedal side, remove retaining clip from pivot pin.
Insert screwdriver below tab -A- and press off toward instrument panel (in direction of arrow).
- Pull pivot pin to right and remove clutch pedal.
INSTALLATION
- Install clutch pedal in reverse order of removal.
NOTE: Before installing the retaining clip, position the pedal pivot pin so that the recesses -B- are vertical, as shown in the above illustration.
- After installing clutch pedal, check operation of clutch cable adjustment mechanism.
