Component Notes And Information

NOTE:
^ During removal and installation procedures, refer to the component location illustration above and component notes below.
^ When repairing, apply a thin coat of brake fluid to cylinders, pistons and seals. Install all parts in repair kit

1 Protective seal
- Push onto bleed valve
2 Bleed valve
- Apply thin coat of brake cylinder paste to threads before threading in
3 Cap
- Install in mounting bushing
4 Guide pin
- Tighten to: 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
5 Mounting bushing
- Insert into brake caliper housing
6 Brake cylinder housing
7 Brake carrier
- Install on brake caliper housing
8 Retaining spring
- Install with both ends in the drillings in brake caliper housing
9 Piston seal
- Remove using a screwdriver
10 Piston
- Force piston out of brake caliper using compressed air
- First coat the piston lightly with brake cylinder paste.
- Piston diameter 54 mm
11 Protective seal
- Do not damage when installing piston

Removal





1. Force piston out of caliper housing with compressed air.

CAUTION: Place a wooden block in the caliper to prevent damage to the piston.

WARNING: Use only enough air pressure to force the piston out.





2. Carefully remove piston seal using VAG 1474/5.

CAUTION: When removing, use care to ensure that the cylinder bore is not damaged.

Installation





1. Install dust cap onto piston.
2. Install new piston seal into housing.





3. Lubricate piston and cylinder bore lightly with brake fluid.
4. Hold piston in front of caliper housing and push inner sealing lip into cylinder groove using VAG 1474/5.





5. Press piston into caliper housing.
6. Outer lip of dust boot must slip into groove in piston.
