Battery Discharges
Troubleshooting - Battery Discharges:
Battery Discharges
(Current draw suspected)
Test Condition:
^ Battery voltage OK.
Possible Causes of Battery Drain:
^ corroded and dirty contacts (connectors)
^ bare wires (stripped insulation)
^ internal short circuits in components
For Troubleshooting is Required:
^ Multimeter Fluke 83 (US 1119)
^ Connector test kit VW 1594
^ Valid wiring diagram
NOTE:
- The glow plugs may be activated when the driver's door is opened and closed on diesel-engine vehicles featuring a preheating system operated by door contacts.
- The battery discharges a substantial amount of current when the glow plugs are operating. To prevent inadvertent activation of the preheating system and the damage to test equipment that could result you should remove the glow plug fuse for the duration of the troubleshooting.
- Set the tester to as highest current range before connecting it.
