Exploded View Of Rear Caliper:






Component Notes And Information

NOTE:
^ During service procedures, refer to the illustration above and the information below.
^ When repairing, apply a thin coat of brake fluid to cylinders, pistons and seals. Install all parts in repair kit
^ During removal and installation procedures, refer to the component location illustration above and component notes below
^ New calipers are supplied filled with brake fluid and pre-bled.

1 Bolt
- Tighten to: 35 Nm (26 ft lb)
- Always replace
- Counterhold guide bolts while loosening/tightening
2 Piston seal
- Remove using a suitable blunt tool
3 Piston
- Removal/Installation, refer below
4 Protective seal
- Pull outer sealing lip onto piston
- Install inner sealing lip in brake caliper housing groove
5 Dust cap
6 Bleeder screw
- Apply a thin coat of brake cylinder paste before screwing in
7 Brake caliper housing with parking brake cable lever
- Replace if leaking fluid at parking brake lever
- Fill with fluid and pre-bleed before installing
8 Guide pins
- Lubricate with grease before installing protective cap
9 Protective cap
- Install on guide bolts and brake pad carrier
10 Brake pad carrier with guide pins and protective cap
- Supplied as replacement part with pre-lubricated guide bolts and protective caps.
- If protective caps or guide bolts are damaged install repair kit and use grease pack supplied to lubricate guide bolts.


Removal

Rear Caliper Piston Removal:




1. Remove piston as follows:
a. Install piston tool 3272, or equivalent into caliper with collar of tool (arrow) next to caliper piston as shown in illustration.
b. Turn knurled wheel of tool counterclockwise to remove piston.

NOTE: If piston is difficult to turn use open-end 13 mm wrench on flats provided (arrow A).

Rear Caliper Seal Removal:





2. Carefully remove seal using VAG 1474/5.

Installation

Rear Caliper Piston Dust Seal Installing:




1. Install dust boot onto piston.

Piston Into Rear Caliper Installing:




2. Hold piston in front of caliper housing and insert inner sealing lip into cylinder groove using VAG 1474/5.

Rear Caliper Piston Returning:




3. Install piston tool No. 3272, collar of tool (arrow) must contact brake caliper
4. Turn knurled wheel of tool clockwise to install piston.

NOTE: If piston is difficult to turn use open-end 13 mm wrench on flats provided (arrow A).

5. Install brake pads.

Rear Caliper Pre Bleeding:




6. Pre bleed caliper as follows.
a. Open bleed screw (left arrow).
b. Fill with brake fluid from container until brake fluid flows from brake line connection (right arrow) without bubbles.
c. Close bleed screw.
