Clockspring Assembly / Spiral Cable: Service and Repair

Steering Wheel Removal




- Remove driver's airbag unit
- Remove bottom part of trim -4- for steering column.
- Separate connector -5-.
- Remove hex nut -4- and pull steering wheel off steering column.

NOTE: Airbag Spiral Spring F138 (-3-) remains on the steering wheel.

Spiral Spring Removal




- Driver airbag unit and steering wheel removed.
- Separate single connector for horn.
- Remove screws -1- and pull Airbag Sprial Spring -2- off the steering wheel.

NOTE:
^ The steering must be in the center position (wheels in straight-ahead position) when the Airbag Spiral Spring is removed and installed.
^ Airbag Spiral Spring is secured as a new part in the center position with a cable tie.

Installation
- Installation is conducted in the reverse order of removal.

NOTE: At assembly of the lower steering column trim, ensure that the wire of the Airbag Spiral Spring fits into the opening provided.
