Component Notes And Information

NOTE:
^
During removal and installation procedures, refer to the component location illustration above and component notes below.
^ Separate connector for brake pad wear indicator.
^ When removing self locking bolts (14), counter hold guide bolts (17) using a suitable wrench
^ To prevent brake fluid spillage draw the brake fluid from the reservoir using a bleeder bottle that is used ONLY for brake fluid.

WARNING:
^ Brake fluid is poisonous and must NEVER be removed by siphoning with your mouth.


CAUTION:
^ After servicing caliper, depress brake pedal firmly several times to seat the pads in their normal operating position.

1 Brake disc, non ventilated
- When worn always replace on both sides of vehicle
- Diameter: 256 mm
- Thickness: 13 mm
- Wear limit: 11 mm
2 Brake disc, Ventilated
- When worn always replace on both sides of vehicle
- Remove brake caliper before removing
- Diameter: 256 mm (10.08 in.)
- Thickness: 20 mm (0.787 in.)
- Wear limit: 18 mm (0.709 in.)
3 Screw
4 Countersunk screw
- To secure wheel speed sensor rotor
5 Brake pads
- With pad wear indicator
- Always replace both sides
- Thickness:
Non ventilated disc: 14 mm
Ventilated disc: 11 mm
- Wear limit:
Non ventilated disc: 7 mm including backing plate
Ventilated disc: 7 mm including backing plate
6 Hub
- Replacement, refer to Steering and Suspension
7 Wheel speed sensor rotor
- Only on models with ABS
8 Hex bolt
- Tighten to: 10 Nm (7 ft lb)
9 Splash plate
10 Wheel bearing housing
11 Brake carrier with guide pins and protective caps
- Replacement part comes assembled with grease
- Use repair kit if protective caps are damaged
- Lubricate guide bolts with grease supplied in repair kit
12 Heat deflector
- Insert in piston
13 Brake caliper housing
- Do not disconnect brake fluid hose when changing pads
14 Self-locking hex bolt
- Tighten to: 35 Nm (26 ft lb)
- Always replace
15 Guide pin
16 Ribbed Bolt
- Tighten to: 125 Nm (92 ft lb)
17 Protective cap
18 Hex socket head bolt
- Tighten to: 10 Nm (7 ft lb)
19 ABS Wheel Speed Sensor
- Install with lubricating paste, Part No. G 000 650 or equivalent

Removal





- Remove lower brake caliper housing securing bolt.
Counter hold on guide pin





- Swing caliper upward
remove brake pads

Installation

NOTE:
^ Before inserting new brake pas, press piston back using a suitable resetting tool.
^ Before pressing back the piston, remove some fluid from the reservoir using a bleeder bottle.
^ If fluid in the reservoir has been topped up fluid may overflow and cause damage.





- Press piston back
- Install brake pads
- Swing caliper down and tighten bolt.

NOTE:
^ The repair kit contains two new self locking bolts which must always be installed.
^ After replacing brake pads, depress the brake pedal firmly several times with the vehicle stationary so that the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position
