Condition

Brake control light remains on while driving. Instrument cluster circuit may be damaged due to voltage surge during cranking.

Service

Ensure handbrake switch rubber boot is not activating switch continuously. If switch is OK, replace complete instrument cluster in addition to modifying wiring as described below:

- Obtain radio code.

- Disconnect battery.

- Remove lower left instrument panel cover, loosen fuse/relay panel for wiring access.

- Locate two brown/yellow wires at terminal 6 of daytime running light relay connector (relay position 19 or 23).

- From these, locate the brown/yellow wire equipped with in-line diode. Note: wire color changes to black/yellow after the diode.

- Trace black/yellow wire from diode to yellow TV (X circuit) connector (on top of fuse/relay panel) and disconnect.

- Connect black/yellow wire to free location on any black TV (15 circuit) connector nearby.

- Re-install fuse/relay panel, instrument panel cover, connect battery and code radio.
