Digimat 2 Phase I AG4 Transmission
MODEL(s):
Golf III/Jetta III m.y. 95 VIN 1H_SM 013734
With the introduction of the MY 95 Golf III/Jetta III (beginning with VIN 1H_SM013734) a new Transmission Control Module (TCM) was introduced. This TCM is designated as "Digimat 2" and can be recognized by its new part number 096 927 733 xx. This TCM introduces 3 new driver/driving shift characteristics that should be explained to the customer. These new shifting characteristics are completely normal and do not require component adjustment or replacement.
In order to document this issue please report each case where the customer is not satisfied to the VW Helpline.
1. When driving on a level road (less than +/- 3.5° slope) the TCM will function in an economy mode. When the need to increase the speed of the vehicle is required, a quick change in the accelerator pedal will cause the transmission to shift into a "Sport", mode, downshifting to increase the transmission RPMs and engine power. When the accelerator pedal is released the transmission will return to the economy mode.
2. When road resistance, such as wind load, towing, increased vehicle load, up-hill driving (greater than 3.5°) is encountered the shift points will change to provide more engine rpm and power.
3. When road resistance decreases such as going down hill, the TOM will automatically select a suitable lower gear. This selection will provide engine braking with selector lever in "D", and reduce the need for braking when driving down hill. When the road resistance returns to normal the shifting characteristics will return to normal.
