Production
An updated "Premium" (Clarion) stereo radio with revised functions, Part No. 1HM 035 186 D, has been introduced for Golf, GTI and Jetta models beginning with 17.07.95 production, ....... S_119278 -->), and for Cabrio models starting with Mexico production (m.y. 1996).
Changes include a new label on the volume control, and the Owner's Manuals have been revised with a different illustration and new text describing the "DX" function.

Function description
Stereo indicator "ST"
^ Indicator will NOT blink if radio signal is weak
^ Indicator will switch OFF immediately when switching from FM to AM
^ Indicator will switch ON immediately when switching from AM to FM
"DX" indicator cancelled
^ In "SEEK" and "SCAN" functions, adjustment (sensitivity) is modified, and the "DX" indicator will be switched off.
Memory allocation modified
^ When the memory button is actuated, the sound will continue, then stop when the new frequency is recorded in memory.
Anti-theft coding
The radio is anti-theft coded by Clarion, the radio supplier. When the radio is switched on, the word "SAFE" appears in the display.
To test without entering the code number, follow the following procedure:
- Switch the radio on.
- Switch the radio off.
- Press the "MODE" button and hold it.
- Switch the radio on.
^ A number will be displayed, indicating the number of times remaining that the radio can be switched on without entering the code. This is permitted a total of only 21 times.
- Release the "MODE" button.
^ The radio will operate for 5 minutes.
If the number "21" is displayed, the radio will not play without entering the anti-theft code.
