Ignition Coil Pack: Description and Operation
PURPOSEThe ignition coil is a transformer that is used to produce the high voltage needed to generate a spark at the spark plugs.
LOCATION
There are three ignition coils. They are located on the left side of the cylinder head.
OPERATION
There are three ignition coils. When the power stage fires an ignition coil, spark is supplied to two spark plugs at a time. One spark plug fires during the compression stroke and the other plug fires during the exhaust stroke.
When the spark plug for cylinder #1 fires on its compression stroke, the plug for cylinder #6 fires during its exhaust stroke
After 3600 of crankshaft revolution, cylinder #6 is on its compression stroke and cylinder #1 is on its exhaust stroke.
The same procedure is followed for the remaining cylinders #2 and #5 and #3 and #4.
