Diesel Injection Start Timing, Checking

INJECTION START POSITIONER CONTROLLED, LOAD-DEPENDENT INJECTION TIMING, CHECKING

The Injection Start Positioner controlled, load-dependent injection timing is integrated into the injection pump. It adjusts injection timing relative to engine load providing a smoother running engine.

Above approx. 2800/rpm the load-dependent injection timing is cut-off by the Injection Start Positioner (N165) -1-, which is controlled by the Automatic Glow Time Control Module (J179).

Injection pump cut-off, checking
- Disconnect Injection Start Positioner connector.
- Connect VAG 1527B LED tester to connector.
- Start engine and raise engine speed to approx. 3000/rpm:
LED tester must light up.

If the LED tester does NOT light up
- Locate malfunction using wiring diagram, or replace the Automatic Glow Time Control Module (J179).

Injection Start Positioner, checking
- Remove Injection Start Positioner, connect to ground and Battery +
Injection Start Positioner must operate.
